Position: Youth and Family Director

The Youth and Family Director provides direct supervision of staff and is responsible for the successful operation of quality programs for children, teens, and families. The Director will work in collaboration with other department directors to achieve the Association's goals related to Youth & Family Services; provide programs that foster children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth; and ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all program participants.

The Youth and Family Director will support programming in the YMCA's E-Gaming Lab, work with the campus's joint Culinary Center, and lead a team that creates a variety of activities for middle school students. 

Essential Functions

  • In partnership with the Association Director of Youth and Family, plans, administers, and evaluates Youth and Family programs which may include Parent's Night Out, Family Fun Nights, birthday parties, and signature family-related association events.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers for programs such as Kid Zone, summer camps, and other Youth and Family programs.

  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance; develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

  • Provides leadership and oversight of summer and holiday camps, including budgeting, hiring, scheduling, and program management.

  • Develops and implements a plan to grow participation in youth and family programs.

  • Establishes new program activities and expands programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

  • Provides hands-on leadership to youth program activities for successful branch operations.

  • Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing thorough education and supervision of staff, close supervision of all activities, and adherence to all standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Develops effective program recruitment strategies/campaigns to ensure engagement of youth participants from diverse backgrounds.

  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

  • Compiles program statistics and monitors participation to evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Develops and monitors the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

  • Serves as a key member of the branch leadership team.

  • Assists with YMCA fundraising activities and special events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience supervising youth programs and operations, with a minimum of two years managing staff, payroll, and budgets.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in youth programming.

  • Broad knowledge of youth programs, including design, implementation, and ongoing management. Previous child development, childcare, and camp experience preferred.

  • Strong initiative, creativity, and flexibility with the ability to promote an environment that supports the Y mission and core values.

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Outstanding communication, organization, and planning abilities.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $52,000–$58,000 (commensurate with experience)
